Perhaps you have seen the BizSAFE logo in emails from Alphatron Marine Systems Pte Ltd? We’ve recently acquired Level 3 approval by the ministry of Manpower after they did a side survey of our operation.
Now you might think, what is BizSAFE?
BizSAFE is a 5-step programme administered by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Workplace Safety & Health Council (WSHC). It recognizes Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for their efforts in managing safety and health hazards in their workplaces / worksites.
The 5 Levels in the Bizsafe Program are the actions required to qualify for theses levels.
Level 1:Top Management attend a 1/2 day course Level 1 Course/Workshop, conducted by Approved Service Provider.
Level 2:Your company must nominate a Risk Management (RM) Champion to attend the Risk Management Course. At the end of the course, the RM Champion must chart out the RM Implementation Plan for your company.
Level 3:Your company must have a fully implement the RM plan, with an independent MOM-approved auditor to audit the effectiveness of the Risk Management.
Level 4:your company must elect a Workplace Safety and Health Management System (WSHMS) Champion to attend the WSHMS Course. With the acquired knowledge, the WSHMS Champion must be able to develop a WSH Management Plan for your enterprise.
Level 5: (Bizsafe Star):Your company must engage an independent third-party certification company to certify that your WHSMS meets SS506 or its equivalent.
Why BizSAFE?
Safety is everybody’s responsibility and it is an investment for any company which intends to sustain a healthy and profitable business. The BizSAFE program is a pledge of commitment for any company that wishes to improve their workplace safety and health. First this commitment begins from the top management which will extend to all levels subsequently. This allows the whole organization to get involved in developing a system and ensure a workplace that is conducive for work and yet safe for all workers.
What are the benefits of BizSAFE?
Many established corporations have placed BizSAFE certification (mostly Level 3) as a tendering sub-contracting and supplying requirement. Thus, sub-contractors, tenders and suppliers having a BizSAFE certification will have a competitive edge over those who do not.
